Baha Mar vs Atlantis: An Honest Comparison for Nassau
Updated April 2026 | 3 min read
We went to Nassau in January 2024 for a long weekend. The choice came down to Baha Mar and Atlantis. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar on points and it was the right call.
Why We Picked Baha Mar
Baha Mar is newer, quieter, and more polished. The beach is long and calm, the pools are not overcrowded, and the restaurants are genuinely good. Cafe Madeleine for breakfast was our daily ritual. Marcus Samuelsson’s restaurant was the standout dinner. The casino is massive, though we lost money in it exactly as fast as you would expect.
What Atlantis Does Better
The water park and the marine habitat. Aquaventure is legitimately one of the best water parks in the Caribbean, and the open-air aquarium is impressive. If you are traveling with kids, Atlantis is probably the better choice.
What Baha Mar Does Better
Everything else. The rooms are nicer, the beach is better maintained, and the dining is stronger: Carna (steakhouse), Fi’lia (Italian), El Jefe (beachfront tacos). The biggest advantage is the points game. Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is bookable at 25,000 Hyatt points per night. We used 75,000 points for three nights, saving $1,200-1,800 in room costs.
The Swimming Pigs
The excursion goes to the Exumas, about an hour by speedboat. It costs about $190 per person. The pigs are real, they swim, and they will climb into your lap if you have food. Book well in advance. Take motion sickness medication for the boat ride.
What It Cost (Two People, 3 Nights)
- Flights: ~$400 round trip from NYC
- Hotel: 75,000 Hyatt points (3 nights)
- Swimming pigs: ~$380 total
- Food and drinks: ~$800
- Total cash: ~$1,580 (plus 75K points)
The Verdict
Baha Mar for couples and points travelers. Atlantis for families. If you have Hyatt points, this is not close.
