Holafly: Unlimited Data, No Stress

Holafly sells unlimited data plans at a flat price per destination. No data caps, no speed throttling after a certain amount, no worrying about running out mid-trip. Plans start at around $6 for 1 day and scale up — a 7-day unlimited plan for most destinations runs $19-27.

The setup is dead simple: buy online, scan a QR code, activate when you arrive. It worked instantly in Austria and Japan for me with no configuration needed beyond scanning the code. Japan in particular was important because free WiFi there is unreliable and you need constant data for Google Maps and translation apps.

The downside: Holafly does not give you a local phone number. If you need to receive SMS verification codes (some apps require this), you will need your home SIM active in the background. Most modern phones support dual eSIM, so this is rarely a problem.
